Akwa Ibom-born footballer Solomon Udo has once again earned a call-up to the Armenia national team ahead of their high-stakes UEFA Nations League knockout clash against Georgia later this month.

Born in Nigeria with strong roots in Akwa Ibom, Udo’s football journey has taken him from the streets of his homeland to the grand stages of European football. Since switching international allegiance to Armenia, he has become an essential figure in their national setup, amassing 20 caps for the European side. Notably, the first game he started from the blast of the whistle for Armenia was against Georgia, making this upcoming clash even more significant for him.

The midfielder, known for his composure and technical prowess, will be looking to add to his international experience as Armenia takes on Georgia in a two-legged encounter that will determine their fate in the competition.

Georgia finished third in League B Group One behind Czech Republic and Ukraine, while Armenia, under the guidance of Dutch tactician John van ‘t Schip, secured second place in League C Group Four, narrowly trailing North Macedonia. Now, both teams are set to battle for progression in the UEFA Nations League.

Udo, who plies his trade with Pyunik Yerevan, the most successful football club in Armenia, will be keen to make his 21st appearance for the national team and contribute to their push for qualification. The first leg of the crucial double-header will take place on Thursday, March 20, at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Armenia, before the team travels to Georgia for the return fixture on Sunday.

His success on the international stage serves as an inspiration for young footballers from Akwa Ibom, proving that talent nurtured in the region can shine globally. As he prepares to take the field once again, fans in Akwa Ibom and across Nigeria will be watching closely, cheering for one of their own on the international stage.
